La Messicole (2010)

2D animated short film, 90 sec
Student graduation film
This animated short film was my graduation project at Central Saint Martins College of Arts & Design in London, where I studied a postgraduate course in 2D Character Animation. Though one of my earlier works, I still like the energy of it. Our graduation films were a collaboration with the National Gallery in London, each student chose a painting on which they based their graduation film. “La Messicole” is an uncommon French word for flowers that grow among crop fields, but are unwanted in the harvest. The film is based on this painting by Paul Gauguin, you can also see it in the end of the film.

The film was awarded “Best Animated Music Video” at Tindirindis International Film Festival in Lithuania in 2010 and was Official Selection at Encounters Bristol, Pucheon International Student Animation Festival, Animac Lleida, China International Student Animation Festival, Pictoplasma Berlin and Rushes Soho among others.
